[TECH TIPS] The Famous Shortcut File Virus

If you are constantly using your removable flash drive at work or school, you're bound to encounter this problem:

Files inside have multiplied and turned in shortcuts.

Fear not, it's an easy fix for some. So far, no extensive damage has been done to my 4 year old laptop.

So here is what you do:
  • Identify which drive letter you're flash drive is in (e.g. - F, G, H, I). Assume in this scenario, it is G
  • Go to START > RUN > type CMD and Enter
  • You will get a command prompt window - black background window
  • Enter this command. attrib -h -r -s /s /d G:\*.*
  • If you have a lot of files, it might take a minute.

Note : Replace the letter G with your flash drive letter.

This usually works for me. If not, find a neutral place to put the files you need, and probably format your infected flash drive.

Good luck and good day.
